HBOOT-Flashing Question

I am wondering if anyone could answer a question I have. I am wondering if my Hboot version has an impact on what Roms I can flash. I currently have Hboot 2.20.0.0.0 and jelly bean 4.2.2.-........ So am I able to flash any Roms I want as long as it's for a Zara (cl)? Or do I have to be running a certain Hboot version or firmware version to flash certain Roms? If anyone can help me out that would be awesome, if I do have to change hboot I know how to flash it i just wasnt sure if it's needed and what would happen to the current rom I'm using if i were to flash a different Hboot.
