The other day, I dropped my phone 950xl off a counter top and it fell on its short edge. The phone was in a Cimo heavy duty case and there was no physical damage.
However (later), I noticed that the phone would not rotate the screen anymore ... bummer.
I thought that it could have been SW or FW that I upgraded o the phone ... but here was no info on the net that anybody else had a problem with the downloads.
I loaded some of the HW test apps, and they all showed that the accelerometer did not show any Y-axis movement. So, I was thinking that the drop killed the accelerometer.
I also reasoned that the accelerometer was a floating type device -- and maybe it got stuck when it was dropped. So, by chance (still in the case), I gave it a smack on the opposite short end on a table ...
And, the accelerator started working -- and the phone screen rotated when turned ...
Lucky that it started working ...
But, that is an interesting notion that the accelerometer can get stuck if dropped -- even though there is no real damage to the phone -- at least no other that I have noticed.
